NORTH CAROLINA — A Marion couple has been charged after a child in their care tested positive for drugs, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Bethany Taylor Hensley, 39, and Preston Ballew Hensley, 39, were each charged with felony exposing a child to a controlled substance.

According to a post from the sheriff’s office, a detective met with the couple on Jan. 13 following a referral from the McDowell County Department of Social Services. Investigators said the inquiry led to narcotics exposure testing of the children in the home after consent was provided by the parents.

Officials did not release additional details about the substances involved or the age of the child.

Bethany Hensley is being held under a $75,000 secured bond. Preston Hensley was denied bond because he was already out on pretrial release at the time of his arrest.

The case remains under investigation.
