Two people arrested after child overdoses on cocaine in Georgia

GEORGIA — Two adults have been arrested after a four-year-old child suffered a cocaine overdose in east Georgia, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the overdose led authorities to execute a search warrant Friday at a residence in Jefferson. Details about what investigators discovered inside the home were not immediately released.

Following the investigation, Sheena Dawn Shumake, 35, and Joshua Tyler Shumake, 33, were taken into custody. Both were booked into the Jackson County Jail.

According to officials and jail records, the pair is charged with first-degree cruelty to children.

Authorities have not provided additional information about the child’s current condition or the specific circumstances surrounding the overdose.
