TENNESSEE — Two men have been charged in connection with the assault of a UPS driver last month, according to court records.
Major Hurt, 40, and Martez Rodgers, 32, were booked into the Shelby County Jail on Sunday.
Both face charges of aggravated assault and criminal attempted first-degree murder.
Records state that on Jan. 28, Hurt and Rodgers followed the UPS driver through a neighborhood near Memphis International Airport before blocking him on the 4400 block of Hancock Drive.
One of the men was armed with a gun when they approached the driver, investigators say.
The suspects allegedly demanded a specific package intended for a home on Goodhaven Drive. Rodgers then began beating the driver while Hurt choked him, records state.
The attack left the UPS driver covered in blood with head injuries that required stitches. He was transported to Regional One Health for treatment.
Investigators were able to track down Rodgers based on details the UPS driver provided about the package, which was to be delivered just a quarter-mile from the attack.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
