LOUISIANA — Two former Amazon employees are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics from a fulfillment center, according to police.

Authorities say Byron Anthony Johnson, 33, stole $6,346 worth of merchandise between June 30 and Aug. 28. Javontay Dontrell Seals, 21, is accused of taking $1,707.99 worth of items between July 15 and July 23.

According to arrest warrants, Amazon’s loss prevention team alerted police after uncovering the thefts. Investigators say Johnson was fired and admitted during his termination interview that he stole approximately $22,000 worth of electronics, though the company was only able to verify $6,346 in stolen goods.

Surveillance video reportedly shows Johnson opening packages and concealing merchandise in his clothing. Police say items linked to the thefts include two Apple Watches, seven AirPods Pro devices, an Apple iPad, two Apple mini cell phones, and two Samsung Galaxy phones.

In Seals’ case, investigators say video evidence shows him taking $1,707.99 worth of merchandise, though he allegedly admitted to stealing more than $3,000 worth. According to an affidavit, a loss prevention employee said Seals told him he was homeless and had several children to support.

Items police say they confirmed Seals stole include an Apple iPad, four AirPods Pro devices, and a digital scale.

The investigation remains ongoing.
