Two Florida schools announce early dismissal following credible threat

FLORIDA — Students at Port St. Joe High School and Port St. Joe Elementary School were released early Tuesday following what school officials described as a credible threat.

According to Jim Norton, superintendent of Gulf County Schools, an active situation developed at both schools after a credible threat was made against a specific individual. Norton said all students are safe and no one was harmed.

The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office reported a heavy law enforcement presence at both campuses as a precaution. At the advisement of the sheriff’s office, a staggered dismissal was implemented, with students escorted to buses by law enforcement officers.

School officials emphasized that student safety remained the top priority throughout the response. The situation remains under investigation, and authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
