NORTH CAROLINA — A couple is facing multiple charges after police found a woman unconscious in a vehicle in the drive-thru of a restaurant Saturday afternoon, with a child, drugs and alcohol also inside the car.

According to the Kinston Police Department, officers were called around 4:30 p.m. in response to reports of a person slumped over in a vehicle in a restaurant drive-thru.

When officers arrived, they found 63-year-old Cynthia Todd unconscious in the driver’s seat. Also inside the vehicle were 39-year-old Jeffrey Shields and a 7-year-old child.

Police said an open container of alcohol was in plain view inside the vehicle.

During their investigation, officers determined Todd was in possession of oxycodone pills, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Authorities also learned that Shields was wanted by the United States Marshals Service for federal probation violations.

Both adults were taken into custody. The child was released to a parent.

Todd was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and exposing children to controlled substances.

Shields was served with his federal warrant and placed in the Lenoir County Jail without bond.
