GEORGIA — A woman with multiple outstanding warrants was found hiding inside a secret compartment in a dresser during a search at a home in Jones County, authorities said.
Deputies with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office searched a residence on Upper River Road on July 23, looking for Nichole Lewis, who was wanted on several charges across Jones, Baldwin, and Putnam Counties.
Her charges included fleeing and eluding, possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, obstruction, and failure to appear.
At the home, deputies spoke with Ashley Wilkes, who was also wanted for allegedly helping Lewis evade arrest. Initially, Lewis could not be located. However, during the search, deputies discovered a hidden compartment inside a dresser where Lewis was concealed.
“You might get away for a little while… but not forever,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Deputies also found an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine during the search. Both Lewis and Wilkes were arrested and taken to the Jones County Jail.
