Two arrested after children found living in unsafe conditions in Ohio

OHIO — Two people were arrested Tuesday after deputies discovered multiple children living in what authorities described as “extremely unsafe conditions” in a Butler County home.

Deputies responded to a welfare check in the 1500 block of Biscayne Drive after a caller reported seeing a small child unsupervised after getting off a school bus.

The caller walked the child to his residence and found the child’s caregiver unresponsive inside. Deputies arriving at the scene located multiple small children in the home.

After repeated announcements, deputies found a man identified as the children’s uncle asleep in a back bedroom.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones said the house was in deplorable condition, with a white powdery substance on the floor, fecal matter on the walls, insects throughout the home, no food in the refrigerator or cabinets, and trash, dirty diapers, and more fecal matter scattered across the floors. The children also had no clean clothes, bedding, or designated sleeping areas.

“It’s horrible the condition these children were living in,” said Sheriff Jones. “We appreciate our citizens who see something and say something.”

Children Services was contacted, and the children’s mother was located. She admitted she was aware of the conditions, saying her brother and sister were supposed to care for the children while she worked, but “they never do.” The children were placed with responsible adults.

Deputies arrested Adamaris Llamile Gutierrez, 24, and Christopher Gutierrez Perez, 18, on charges of Endangering Children. Authorities said Perez is in the United States illegally from Guatemala and is being held on an ICE detainer in addition to local charges.
