SOUTH EUCLID — Police have arrested two men in connection with two shootings that occurred just minutes apart on Sunday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and another person injured.
The first incident took place at 12:33 p.m. on the 4000 block of Okalona Road.
Officers arrived to find a 31-year-old man, later identified as Jermaine Taylor of Euclid, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Taylor was taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
His death has been ruled a suspected homicide, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.
A 30-year-old Cleveland man was arrested at the scene, and police recovered a firearm. Charges are pending further investigation.
Just nine minutes later, South Euclid police responded to a second shooting on the 3800 block of Salisbury Road, approximately 2.5 miles from the first location.
Officers found a 43-year-old man, identified as David Welch Sr., with at least one gunshot wound. Welch was taken to the hospital, underwent surgery, and is now in stable condition.
Police detained a man from this scene for questioning and took a firearm, believed to have been used in the shooting, into evidence.
Authorities indicated that the second shooting stemmed from a dispute between familiar parties, and the suspect is now in custody.
