PENNSYLVANIA — Two 18-year-old men are facing multiple charges after police said they stole items from several unlocked vehicles in Shaler Township early Sunday morning.
According to court documents, officers with the Shaler Township Police Department were called to the 200 block of Rosebriar Drive after a resident reported items stolen from a parked vehicle. When police arrived, they found two individuals hiding behind a parked pickup truck along Rose Drive.
Police identified the suspects as Samuel Ruano and Jacob Klugh. Officers said the two attempted to walk away when they were discovered. Klugh was detained at the scene, while Ruano reportedly got onto an electric scooter and attempted to flee. Court papers state Ruano rode down the street before walking back toward officers, where he was taken into custody.
Investigators said residents in the area were alerted to suspicious activity near their vehicles through Ring camera notifications. Both suspects told officers they decided to check how many vehicles in the neighborhood were unlocked and admitted to taking multiple items from inside the vehicles.
The two men are facing several charges, including theft and criminal trespassing. They were transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
Police are urging residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables. In a social media post, the department reminded the public to report suspicious activity by calling 911.
