IDAHO — A 55-year-old Caldwell man is facing felony drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop in Boise led to the discovery of large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the Boise Police Department.
Police say officers stopped Adrian Velasco on Dec. 2 after he allegedly ran a red light.
During the stop, officers noticed what they described as indicators of possible drug activity and called for a K-9 unit. The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting officers to search the vehicle.
According to a department news release, officers found more than 116 grams of methamphetamine inside the car. Velasco was taken into custody, and investigators later obtained a search warrant for a hotel room in Boise connected to the case. Inside the room, they reported finding approximately 12,785 grams of methamphetamine and 101 grams of fentanyl powder.
Velasco is being held at the Ada County Jail on two felony counts of drug trafficking. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
