TENNESSEE — A tractor-trailer crash early Tuesday morning is causing significant delays on Interstate 24 in Murfreesboro.

The westbound lanes near South Church Street were shut down shortly after 6 a.m. when the truck crashed and blocked both lanes.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported the truck was leaking diesel, and emergency crews, including hazmat teams, were called to clean up the spill. The truck was carrying 30,000 pounds of freight at the time of the crash.

Vehicles are being diverted off I-24 at Joe B. Jackson Parkway onto U.S. Highway 41. Drivers in Murfreesboro are also advised to expect heavier traffic on Manchester Pike and Southeast Broad Street.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation estimated the interstate would reopen around 9:30 a.m., but as of 9 a.m., the lanes remained closed. No further details were immediately released.
