NORTH CAROLINA — Several counties in North Carolina are under a tornado watch as severe weather moves through the region Monday.
The National Weather Service issued the watch for Alamance, Chatham, Cumberland, Harnett, Montgomery, Lee, Orange, Scotland, Person, Vance, Anson, Durham, Hoke, Moore, Richmond and Wake counties until 2 p.m.
Meteorologists say an intense upper-level weather pattern could lead to the development of supercells capable of producing damaging winds and possible tornadoes.
A tornado warning previously issued for Caswell County has since expired.
Officials urge residents to monitor weather alerts and seek shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued.
