
VIRGINIA — The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in Martinsville on Monday as severe storms moved through the area.
According to the NWS, the tornado began near the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Fairy Street. It traveled about half a mile east before lifting near Chatham Heights Road and Bob Gregory Street.
Officials estimate the tornado produced winds of up to 80 miles per hour. The storm caused damage in the area, including snapped and downed trees and at least two power poles.
No injuries were reported as a result of the tornado.
The confirmation comes after a line of strong storms impacted parts of southern Virginia on Monday, bringing damaging winds and hazardous conditions to the region.
