FLORIDA — Three people were injured Sunday morning after a single-vehicle crash that left a car on fire in Palm Beach County, according to authorities.
The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched at about 9:15 a.m. to the intersection of Belvedere Road and Caroline Avenue following reports of a vehicle crash. A caller told 911 dispatchers the vehicle was smoking.
Fire rescue units arrived on scene within four minutes and found a single vehicle that had struck a concrete pole and caught fire. Officials said two people were able to get out of the vehicle on their own, while a third person was trapped inside.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and used extrication equipment, commonly known as the Jaws of Life, to free the trapped patient. All three individuals were declared trauma alerts and transported by ground units to a trauma hospital. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Fire rescue said one of its fire investigators and personnel from Florida Power & Light were called to the scene. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the crash.
