FLORIDA — A suspect has been detained and three people were injured following a stabbing incident Tuesday morning at Walton Middle School in DeFuniak Springs, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident was reported around 7:22 a.m. Deputies, including a school resource officer and additional patrol units, responded to the campus along with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.

Officials said two students and one adult were transported to a hospital with injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been released.

The suspect was detained about a block away from the school shortly after the incident.

Investigators said the incident occurred before the start of the school day.

Classes at Walton Middle School were canceled for the day as authorities continue their investigation. Bruce Avenue was shut down while emergency crews responded.

Officials said a reunification site for students was established at the Walton County Fairgrounds for those who arrived at school prior to the incident.
