
GEORGIA — At least three people were injured Tuesday evening when a driver crashed head-on into an ambulance in Newton County, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 7:37 p.m. on Mt. Zion Road when a Toyota Tacoma reportedly failed to stay in its lane and struck a Central EMS ambulance. Three people became trapped and had to be rescued from the vehicles.
The ambulance driver sustained life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition. Two other Central EMS team members were also seriously injured and remain hospitalized. Central EMS issued a statement saying their focus is on supporting the injured employees and their families during recovery.
Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol said the Toyota driver appeared to be under the influence at the time of the crash. Authorities have not released the driver’s name or details regarding potential charges.
