TENNESSEE — Three men from Detroit are facing drug charges after Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered more than a pound each of marijuana and methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Interstate 75, according to police.
The stop occurred around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near Callahan Drive, where deputies pulled over a vehicle for speeding. The occupants were identified as Jairam Stewart, 30, Frederick Roberts, 29, and Martel Harris, 30, all of Detroit.
According to the records, deputies reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A K-9 officer was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of drugs, leading to a search of the car. During the search, officers reported finding approximately 503.5 grams of marijuana, 470 grams of methamphetamine, and items including a digital scale.
Authorities said the case is part of the 313 Initiative, a collaborative effort among several East Tennessee law enforcement agencies aimed at stopping illegal drugs from being transported into the Knoxville area from Detroit.
All three men were charged in connection with the incident.
