Three people arrested following drug bust in Indiana

INDIANA — Three individuals were arrested on Thursday, May 23, after a traffic stop on Interstate 69 led to the discovery of large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine, according to local authorities.

The incident began when police pulled over a white Toyota Avalon for speeding — the vehicle was clocked at 70 mph in a 55-mph zone near the 57/Petersburgh Road exit.

The driver, Tanya Swearingen, along with passengers Alphonso Kelly and Laurene Winrow, were asked to exit the vehicle.

During the stop, officers observed a burnt glass pipe fall from Kelly as he stepped out, which was identified as drug paraphernalia.

A K-9 unit was brought in and signaled the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle.

Officers found a brown purse in the front passenger seat area containing methamphetamine and cocaine.

Kelly was found to have an active felony warrant for dealing methamphetamine.

A further search revealed additional cocaine hidden in his right sock. Authorities also seized cellphones from all three occupants.

In total, officers recovered 908.6 grams of methamphetamine and 71.8 grams of cocaine, both of which field-tested positive.

Swearingen, Kelly, and Winrow were booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and face charges of dealing methamphetamine and cocaine.

Investigators believe the trio may be connected to a larger drug trafficking network operating between Louisville, Kentucky, and Evansville.
