GEORGIA — Three inmates, including a murder suspect, escaped from the DeKalb County Jail early Monday morning, prompting a large multi-agency search.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the escape was discovered during a routine security check when deputies realized the inmates were missing. By 6 a.m., the jail’s entrance and exit were closed, and deputies secured the perimeter of the facility.

The sheriff’s office said DeKalb County police, sheriff’s deputies, and the U.S. Marshals Service are actively searching for the fugitives.

The escaped inmates were identified as:

  • Stevenson Charles, 24, who was being held on charges of murder and armed robbery.
  • Yusuf Minor, 31, charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Naod Yohannes, 25, charged with simple assault, arson, and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.

Authorities said the three individuals may be armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach them. Residents were advised to exercise extreme caution.

“We take this breach very seriously and are working diligently to ensure these individuals are safely returned to custody as quickly as possible,” said Melody M. Maddox.

Anyone with information about the inmates’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Tip Line at 404-298-8200.
