PORTAGE COUNTY — A Portage County school bus crash Friday morning sent two students and the driver to the hospital after the bus swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The incident occurred around 7:08 a.m. on Scotts Corners Road in Palmyra Township.
OSHP reports that a Southeast Local School District bus carrying 29 children was traveling northwest when a pickup truck heading southeast crossed the center line.
The bus driver, 52-year-old Kelly Rouse, veered off the road to avoid a collision, causing the bus to come to a stop in a nearby yard.
The pickup truck did not stop and continued along Scotts Corners Road. The bus sustained no damage in the incident.
Rouse and six children suffered minor injuries. Rouse and two of the students were transported to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for treatment.
Scotts Corners Road was briefly closed following the crash but has since reopened.
The incident remains under investigation by OSHP. Palmyra Township Fire and EMS, Edinburg EMS, Atwater EMS, and the Portage County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
