NORTH CAROLINA — Three students from E.E. Smith High School were killed and another person was seriously injured in a car crash Wednesday night, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The crash occurred around 7:22 p.m. on Rosehill Road when the vehicle struck a telephone pole. Police said three of the teenagers died at the scene. A fourth person was airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill with serious injuries.

Cumberland County Schools released a statement Thursday expressing condolences to the victims’ families and the E.E. Smith High School community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones and the entire E.E. Smith Golden Bulls community during this difficult time,” the statement said. The district’s Student Services team is providing on-site counseling and emotional support to students and staff.

Police closed Rosehill Road between Ramsey Street and Country Club Road for several hours as the investigation continued.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Officer C. Lewis at 910-818-1872 or submit an anonymous tip to Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
