OHIO — Three children were taken into custody after allegedly stealing a car, leading police on a short pursuit, and crashing into a home in Newburgh Heights, according to authorities.
Police said officers began pursuing the vehicle on Harvard Avenue as it crossed the Denison Bridge. The chase ended a short time later when the car crashed into a residence in Newburgh Heights, causing what police described as minor damage to the home.
Officers said three children inside the vehicle — ages 8, 11, and 12 — ran from the scene following the crash but were quickly apprehended. Police reported that the 8-year-old and 11-year-old are brothers and that the 11-year-old was driving at the time of the pursuit. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Parma, according to police.
Investigators said the children told officers they learned how to steal vehicles by watching videos on YouTube. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash or pursuit.
Police said the children were released to their parents. Charges are expected to be filed in juvenile court.
