
WEST VIRGINIA — More than 10,000 homes and businesses across West Virginia are without electricity as of Monday morning following strong thunderstorms, with the state currently reporting the highest number of outages in the nation.
According to the latest data, 10,627 customers are without power statewide, accounting for approximately 1.05% of the 1,012,397 customers tracked. Officials say West Virginia ranks first in both total outages and the percentage of customers affected nationwide.
Outages are impacting multiple counties, with Pocahontas County reporting the highest number of customers without service at 2,725. The county is also the hardest hit in terms of impact, with about 27.41% of its customers experiencing outages.
Other counties with significant outages include Fayette, Wayne, Kanawha, and Boone counties, each reporting hundreds to more than a thousand affected customers.
Utility data shows Appalachian Power Company has the largest number of outages, with 7,156 customers without electricity. The company also has the highest percentage of affected customers among utilities in the state, at 1.58%.
Crews are continuing to work to restore service, though no estimated restoration times have been provided. Residents are encouraged to report outages to their utility providers and use caution around downed power lines.
