Thousands without power in Virginia

VIRGINIA — More than 22,000 homes and businesses are without electricity across Virginia as of Saturday afternoon, according to outage tracking data.

As of the most recent update, 22,470 customers are without power statewide, accounting for about 0.55% of the 4,083,152 customers tracked across Virginia.

Virginia currently ranks first in the nation for the total number of power outages and fourth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Outages were reported across the state’s 132 counties and independent cities. Virginia Beach reported the highest number of outages, with 3,211 customers without power. By percentage, Virginia Beach was also the hardest hit, with about 1.55% of customers affected.

A total of 23 utilities are being tracked statewide. Dominion Energy reported the largest number of customers without power, with 16,870 outages. Danville Utilities had the highest percentage of customers affected, with 1.47% without electricity.

Utility crews continue restoration efforts statewide. No estimated time for full restoration has been announced.
