VIRGINIA — A widespread power outage in the town of Ashland on Thursday morning led Hanover County Public Schools to temporarily relocate Liberty Middle School students and staff to Patrick Henry High School.
The school division announced at 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 4 that buses were transporting students from Liberty Middle School after the building lost power. According to Dominion Energy’s outage map, about 2,802 homes and businesses in the area were without electricity as of 8:55 a.m.
Dominion Energy estimates restoration between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., though the cause of the outage remains under investigation. School officials said Patrick Henry High School has heat and electricity and is able to accommodate the relocated students.
Parents and guardians who had not yet dropped off students were instructed to take them directly to Patrick Henry High School’s main entrance, where staff members were available to assist.
The school division said it will provide updates as more information becomes available.
