TEXAS — Widespread power outages are impacting communities across Texas as winter weather continues to strain electrical infrastructure in parts of the state.
According to PowerOutage.us, 137,590 homes and businesses are currently without power statewide, representing 0.89% of the 15,510,612 customers tracked. Texas now ranks second in the nation for total power outages and fifth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected, underscoring the extent of the disruption.
Of Texas’ 254 counties, Cherokee County is experiencing the most significant impact. The county reports 13,383 customers without electricity, accounting for 36.78% of its customers, the highest percentage affected in the state.
Among utilities, Oncor has the largest number of outages, with 26,384 customers currently without power. Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative reports the highest percentage of customers affected, with 50.09% without electricity.
Utility providers caution that outage numbers may change as crews continue restoration efforts and weather conditions evolve. Ice, strong winds, and falling tree limbs remain a concern in some areas, potentially slowing repairs and causing additional outages before conditions improve.
