SOUTH CAROLINA — More than 10,000 customers in Myrtle Beach are without power Friday evening after several transformers blew at a Santee Cooper facility, officials said.
The outages, reported around 6:16 p.m., affect areas across the city, including traffic signals at multiple intersections. According to Santee Cooper’s outage map, more than 10,000 customers are impacted.
The transformers that failed are located at the utility’s facility on 18th Avenue North, officials said.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to intersections where traffic lights are out and began directing traffic. Authorities urge drivers to use caution while traveling through affected areas.
Utility crews are working Friday evening to restore service. No estimate was immediately available for when power would be fully restored.
