Thousands without power in Ohio

OHIO — As of Monday morning, several thousand homes and businesses across Ohio were without electricity, according to the latest statewide outage figures.

Approximately 2,747 customers were reported without power statewide, representing about 0.05% of the 5,363,449 electric customers tracked across Ohio.

Nationally, Ohio ranked seventh in the United States for the total number of customers without power and 11th for the percentage of customers affected.

Outages were heavily concentrated in one area of the state. Of Ohio’s 88 counties, Fayette County reported by far the most outages, with 2,616 customers without electricity. Fayette County was also the hardest hit by percentage, with approximately 34.8% of its customers affected.

Other counties reporting smaller numbers of outages included Cuyahoga with 75 customers out, Franklin with 13, Stark with 11, Hamilton with six, Preble with five, and Ashtabula and Highland counties with two each.

A total of 32 electric utilities were reporting outages statewide. AES Ohio reported the largest number of customers without power, with 2,622 outages, and also had the highest percentage of customers affected among utilities, at about 0.5%.

Utility crews continued working to restore service, though no estimated restoration times were immediately available.
