
NORTH CAROLINA — Thousands of customers across North Carolina are without electricity Wednesday afternoon as scattered outages were reported in several counties across the state.
According to outage tracking data, approximately 3,061 homes and businesses are without power statewide. That represents about 0.05% of the 5,875,590 electric customers monitored across North Carolina.
Among the state’s 100 counties, Haywood County reported the largest number of outages with 802 customers without electricity. Durham County followed with 787 outages. Other counties reporting outages included Rowan County with 350 customers affected, Cabarrus County with 138, Cherokee County with 137, Jackson County with 124, Guilford County with 93, and Halifax County with 91 customers without power.
Overall, North Carolina currently ranks fourth in the nation for the total number of power outages and eighth for the percentage of customers affected.
Utility data shows Duke Energy reporting the largest number of customers without electricity, with approximately 2,066 outages across its service area. Meanwhile, Haywood EMC reported the highest percentage of its customers affected, with about 2.78% experiencing power outages.
Crews with various utilities continue working to restore service as outages are addressed across multiple counties.
