Thousands without power in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — More than 4,300 homes and businesses across North Carolina are without electricity as of Sunday morning.

According to the latest data, 4,334 customers are without power statewide, representing about 0.07% of the 5,872,106 customers tracked.

North Carolina currently has the third-most power outages in the United States and ranks sixth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Out of the state’s 100 counties, Alamance County has the highest number of outages, with 1,788 customers without electricity. By percentage, Alamance is also the hardest hit, with 1.96% of its customers affected.

Other counties reporting outages include Guilford (1,460), Durham (486), Wake (117), Stokes (79), Northampton (79), Currituck (67), and Rockingham (57).

Utilities across the state are working to restore service. Of the 98 utilities tracked in North Carolina, Duke Energy reports the largest number of affected customers, with 3,946 outages. Dominion Energy has the highest percentage of customers impacted, with 0.11% without power.

Crews continue to assess damage and restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible. Residents are encouraged to report outages to their local utility provider and avoid downed power lines.
