
NORTH CAROLINA — As of Saturday evening, thousands of homes and businesses across North Carolina remain without electricity as an ice storm continues to impact the state.
Power outage data shows that 2,242 customers were without service statewide, accounting for approximately 0.04% of the 5,867,760 electric customers tracked across North Carolina. Compared nationally, North Carolina ranks eighth in the country for the total number of outages and 10th for the percentage of customers affected.
Of the state’s 100 counties, Forsyth County has been hit the hardest. The county reported 1,683 customers without power, representing 0.86% of its total customers — the highest percentage of outages in the state.
A total of 98 electric utilities are tracked in North Carolina. Duke Energy reported the largest number of outages, with 2,230 customers without power statewide. Duke Energy also had the highest percentage of customers affected among utilities, at approximately 0.06%.
Utility crews continue monitoring conditions as freezing temperatures and ice accumulation pose challenges to restoration efforts. Officials urge residents to use caution, avoid downed power lines, and prepare for the possibility of extended outages as the storm persists.
