
NORTH CAROLINA — Severe weather led to thousands of power outages across North Carolina on Sunday evening, according to data from PowerOutage.us.
As of the latest update, 3,491 customers are without electricity statewide, affecting about 0.06% of nearly 5.9 million customers tracked.
The largest concentration of outages are reported in Mecklenburg County, where 2,455 customers were without power. Additional outages were reported in Anson County with 325 customers affected and Gates County with 205.
Smaller numbers of outages were also reported in Cabarrus County, Warren County and Wake County.
Utility provider Duke Energy reported the majority of outages, with 2,842 customers affected. Other outages were reported by Pee Dee Electric, Roanoke Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy.
North Carolina ranked among the states with the highest outage totals nationwide Sunday evening. The outages are believed to be related to storms moving through the region.
Utility crews are working to restore power.
