
ILLINOIS — Nearly 22,000 homes and businesses across Illinois were without electricity Friday morning, according to data from PowerOutage.us.
The outage tracking service reported 21,958 customers without power out of more than 5.7 million customers monitored statewide, representing about 0.38% of customers. Illinois currently has the third-highest number of outages in the United States, according to the site’s latest update.
Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) reported the majority of outages, with 19,800 customers without electricity. Other utilities reporting outages included Ameren with 966 customers affected, Norris Electric Cooperative with 473, and MidAmerican Energy Company with 268.
Several counties reported significant outages. Cook County had the largest number of customers without power at 11,573, followed by Lake County with 2,838 and DuPage County with 1,414. Other counties experiencing outages included Winnebago County with 1,152 customers, Grundy County with 842, and LaSalle County with 639.
Utility crews across the state are continuing to monitor conditions and work to restore power to affected customers.
