
ILLINOIS — More than 16,000 homes and businesses in Illinois are without electricity Friday evening, according to the latest outage data.
As of the most recent update, 16,029 customers across the state are experiencing power outages, which represents about 0.28% of the 5,772,474 customers tracked statewide. The data was updated just minutes before the report.
Illinois currently has the highest number of power outages in the United States and ranks third nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.
Outages are concentrated in several northern Illinois counties. McHenry County has the largest number of outages, with 10,009 customers without power. The county is also the hardest hit by percentage, with 7.32% of customers affected.
Other counties reporting notable outages include Kane County with 3,937 outages, Cook County with 1,495, DeKalb County with 159, and McLean County with 108. Smaller numbers of outages were also reported in DuPage, Will, and Lake counties.
Among utilities, Commonwealth Edison Company accounts for the vast majority of outages statewide, reporting 15,835 customers without power. The utility also has the highest percentage of customers affected, with about 0.39% experiencing outages.
Officials continue to monitor the situation as crews work to restore service across affected areas. Residents experiencing outages are encouraged to report them to their utility provider and follow local safety guidance until power is restored.
