Thousands without power in Florida

FLORIDA — As of Thursday morning, several thousand homes and businesses across Florida are without electricity, according to the latest data from PowerOutage.us.

The outage tracking service reports that 2,981 customers statewide are currently without power, representing approximately 0.03% of the 10,914,008 customers monitored across Florida.

Florida currently ranks seventh in the United States for the total number of outages, but 18th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Among Florida’s 67 counties, Pasco County has the largest number of outages, with 1,306 customers without power. Pasco also has the highest outage rate in the state, with 0.39% of customers affected.

Other counties reporting notable outages include Miami-Dade County with 405 customers without power, Collier County with 288, Broward County with 200, Pinellas County with 148, Alachua County with 103, Palm Beach County with 95, and Hillsborough County with 94.

Several utilities are reporting outages across the state. Duke Energy reported the highest number of customers without power, with 1,512 outages among more than 2 million customers.

Florida Power & Light Company reported 1,243 customers without electricity, while Tampa Electric reported 111 outages. Smaller numbers of outages were also reported by Lakeland Electric and Glades Electric Cooperative, with the latter reporting the highest outage percentage at 0.16% of its customers.

Utility crews continue monitoring the situation as restoration efforts move forward in affected areas.
