Thousands without power in Florida

FLORIDA — As of Friday morning, 4,062 homes and businesses across Florida are without electricity, according to the latest outage data. That represents approximately 0.04% of the 10,913,960 customers tracked statewide.

Florida currently has the fifth-highest number of power outages in the United States and ranks 11th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Out of Florida’s 67 counties, Gilchrist County has the highest number of reported outages, with 1,762 customers without power. By percentage, Gilchrist is also the hardest hit, with 16.84% of its customers affected.

Other counties listed with outages include Palm Beach (1,176), Alachua (315), Broward (200), Miami-Dade (112), Gadsden (42), Lee (41), and Clay (40).

Statewide, 34 utilities are being tracked. Central Florida Electric Cooperative reports the most customers without power, with 1,977 outages. The utility also has the highest percentage of customers affected, at 5.37%.

Utility crews continue working to restore service as conditions allow.
