Thousands without power in Alabama

ALABAMA — Thousands of homes and businesses across Alabama are without electricity Monday morning as utility crews worked to restore service across the state.

According to data from PowerOutage.us, 17,614 customers across Alabama are reported without power out of more than 2.6 million customers tracked statewide, representing about 0.68% of all customers.

Among Alabama’s 67 counties, Tallapoosa County reported the highest number of outages with 2,007 customers without electricity. Other counties with significant outages included Lauderdale County with 1,590 outages, Baldwin County with 1,530, Talladega County with 1,409, and Randolph County with 1,381 customers without power.

By utility provider, Alabama Power reported the largest number of outages, with 12,217 customers affected. Other utilities reporting outages included Florence Electricity with 1,590 customers without power, Baldwin EMC Cooperative with 1,528 outages, and Central Alabama Electric Cooperative with 627 customers affected.

Statewide, Alabama currently ranks ninth in the United States for the total number of power outages and eighth for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage tracking site.

Utility companies across the state continue working to restore service.
