Thousands without power in Alabama

ALABAMA — More than 17,000 homes and businesses across Alabama are without electricity Thursday morning, according to national outage tracking data.

PowerOutage.us reported that about 17,441 customers in Alabama are without power as of the latest update Thursday morning. The outages represent roughly 0.67% of the more than 2.6 million customers tracked statewide.

Montgomery County had the largest number of outages, with about 2,237 customers without electricity.

Other counties reporting significant outages included Jefferson County with 1,963 customers affected, Crenshaw County with about 1,030 outages and Blount County with roughly 903 customers without power.

By utility provider, Alabama Power reported the largest number of affected customers with about 12,577 outages. Smaller utilities and electric cooperatives also reported outages, including Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, South Alabama Electric Cooperative and Central Alabama Electric Cooperative.

Statewide, Alabama ranked among the states with the most outages nationwide Thursday morning. Utility crews were continuing to work to restore power to affected customers.
