Thousands without power in Alabama

ALABAMA — Several thousand customers across Alabama are without electricity as winter weather continues to affect parts of the Southeast.

According to PowerOutage.us, 9,102 homes and businesses are currently without power statewide, accounting for 0.35% of the 2,603,302 customers tracked. Alabama now ranks seventh in the nation for total power outages and 10th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Outages are most concentrated in Jefferson County, where 1,932 customers are without power. By percentage, Jefferson County is the hardest hit in the state, with 0.58% of customers affected.

Among the 32 utilities tracked in AlabamaAlabama Power reports the largest number of outages, with 6,817 customers currently without electricityFlorence Electricity has the highest percentage of customers affected, with 2.99% without power.

Utility crews continue working to restore service as conditions allow. Officials note that while outage numbers remain lower than in some neighboring states, continued winter weather and isolated damage from fallen limbs or power lines could lead to additional disruptions before conditions improve.
