Thousands without power as severe weather approaches Indiana

INDIANA — As severe storms move into Central Indiana on Wednesday, thousands of residents are already dealing with power outages.

According to the AES Indiana outage map, nearly 3,000 homes on the south side of Indianapolis are currently without electricity.

Duke Energy is reporting more than 600 additional outages, primarily in the Southport area.

A severe weather alert has been issued and is set to take effect this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has placed Central Indiana under an “enhanced risk” level—3 out of 5—indicating the potential for significant storms.

The primary threat from today’s weather system will be damaging winds.

However, localized heavy rain could also lead to flooding in some areas. The possibility of isolated tornadoes remains as the storms continue to develop.

Residents are urged to monitor weather updates, secure outdoor items, and prepare for possible extended power outages.
