TENNESSEE — All schools in the Cheatham County School District closed early Monday following a potential threat, according to school officials.
In a statement posted on social media shortly after 10 a.m., the district announced that schools would dismiss at 11 a.m. “out of an abundance of caution.”
Families were allowed to begin picking up students at 10:30 a.m., and buses ran their regular routes.
District officials said at least three schools received threatening voicemails overnight. The nature of the threats has not been disclosed.
“We believe it is in our best interest to close schools,” the district stated. “We are working with the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security and local law enforcement to determine the validity of this threat.”
All after-school activities and the district’s extended daycare program were also canceled for the day.
