TENNESSEE — Williamson County School District officials say Independence High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon following a threatening phone call involving a student.
According to the district, the situation prompted a “shelter in place” order as a precaution while law enforcement responded. Officials said additional officers were dispatched to the campus, and no one was allowed to enter or leave during the lockdown.
In a message sent to families, the district stated that the lockdown was implemented due to the threat and that authorities were actively monitoring the situation.
By shortly after 2:30 p.m., school officials reported that the lockdown had been lifted and that dismissal procedures were beginning. Parents and guardians were allowed to pick up students, though all vehicles entering campus were being screened by law enforcement.
Officials noted that while dismissal would occur on schedule, delays were possible due to increased traffic and security measures.
No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not released additional details about the nature of the threat. The situation remains under investigation.
