OHIO — U.S. Marshals are releasing details of a month-long investigation that led to the recovery of missing children and the arrests of dozens of violent fugitives.
According to a press release, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) recovered ten critically missing children during the 30-day operation. In addition, ten fugitives wanted for sex crimes were taken into custody.
Among those arrested was John Armstrong, 50, who was wanted by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for the rape of a juvenile and by East Cleveland police for homicide.
Investigators said Armstrong was tracked to an apartment in Dayton, where he fired shots at officers when they attempted to arrest him. No officers were injured, and Armstrong was taken into custody.
Over the course of the operation, authorities arrested more than 130 violent fugitives, including suspects wanted for homicide, felony assault, and gun crimes.
One of those arrested was Shon Turner, 34, who was wanted by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department after allegedly pushing a 6-year-old child from a window. The child was seriously injured.
Investigators also seized 11 firearms during the operation, two of which were reported stolen.
