TENNESSEE — A 17-year-old male wanted for allegedly shooting at a FedEx delivery truck driver in Tennessee during a road rage incident was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) on January 22.

His father was also arrested as an accessory during the fugitive investigation.

The incident occurred on December 15, 2024, around 5:20 p.m., when Jackson Police Department (JPD) officers responded to a road rage report on S. Highland Avenue.

The FedEx driver reported that a pick-up truck nearly caused an accident and then began following him.

Near the Civic Center, the suspect allegedly pulled up beside the FedEx truck and fired a shot into its side, just behind the driver’s head. The driver called 911, provided a description of the vehicle, and followed the suspect.

JPD officers located the suspect’s vehicle on N. Highland Avenue near Ridgecrest Road and attempted a traffic stop.

However, the suspect evaded officers, fleeing eastbound on I-40 at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Investigators later identified a 17-year-old male as the suspect, and a juvenile petition was issued for his arrest on charges including attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, felony reckless endangerment, and felony evading arrest.

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) in Jackson was called in to assist with the search.

On January 22, deputy marshals and task force officers located the teen at his residence in Lexington, TN. During the investigation, the teen’s father, Ricky Maness Jr., 44, provided false information about his son’s whereabouts.

Authorities later found the suspect hiding under a bed. He was taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.

Maness was charged with accessory after the fact and booked at the Henderson County Detention Center.

The U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, which operates in western Tennessee, has apprehended approximately 3,000 violent offenders and sexual predators since 2021.
