Teacher arrested after alleged assault on students at North Carolina elementary school

NORTH CAROLINA — A Surry County elementary school teacher has been charged following an investigation into allegations she assaulted two students.

According to the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, a School Resource Officer assigned to Flat Rock Elementary was notified after school hours on October 28, 2025, about a report involving a teacher allegedly assaulting two children.

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation into the claims.

As a result, Anesia Gaye Bridges, 55, a Pre-K teacher at Flat Rock Elementary and a resident of Virginia, was charged on October 30 with two counts of assault on a child under 12.

Bridges turned herself in to the sheriff’s office on October 31 and was taken before a magistrate, who set her bond at $2,000 secured. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for November 12, 2025.

The Sheriff’s Office said Surry County Schools administration has been made aware of the incident and has fully cooperated with investigators.
