OHIO — A student was taken into police custody Thursday morning after a firearm was discovered at a school administration office in Delaware, according to Delaware City Schools.
District officials said they were alerted to concerns that a student enrolled in the WILL alternative high school program at Willis Education Center may have been in possession of a weapon. With assistance from a school resource officer, a search was conducted at the facility.
During the search, a firearm was located, school officials said. The student was subsequently taken into custody by the Delaware Police Department.
It was not immediately clear whether any charges have been filed. The district stated that it does not believe there is an ongoing threat to students or staff.
In a letter sent to parents, school officials emphasized that student safety remains their top priority and thanked those who reported the concern. The district also reiterated the importance of its “See Something, Say Something” initiative, encouraging students and families to report suspicious activity to trusted adults, the Delaware Police Department, or through the Safer Schools tip line.
The incident remains under investigation.
The discovery comes one day after a separate incident involving a firearm at Dominion Middle School in Columbus.
