GEORGIA — A student was taken into custody Tuesday after a gun was discovered in their vehicle on the Tift County High School campus, school officials said.
According to Dana Spurlin with Tift County Schools, the weapon was found in the student parking lot on September 16 following an alert submitted through Anonymous Alerts. School officials noted the alert did not indicate that a threat had been made or existed.
The alert prompted a response from Tift County High School staff, Tift County system security, and the Tifton Police Department. Administrators searched the vehicle and found the gun along with ammunition.
The student was removed from class and taken into custody by local law enforcement. The incident is now being handled by the Tifton Police Department.
