
FLORIDA — A student at Madison County High School was arrested after a handgun was discovered in his vehicle on campus, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said a school resource officer was contacted by an investigator with the Madison Police Department regarding a vehicle on campus that may have contained a firearm.
School resource deputies located the vehicle in a parking area. Officials said the vehicle was unoccupied and locked at the time.
Administrators later identified a 16-year-old student connected to the vehicle. According to investigators, the student acknowledged there was a handgun in the center console and provided keys to access the vehicle.
Deputies said they recovered a loaded handgun from inside the vehicle.
The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing in coordination with the Madison Police Department.
