SOUTH CAROLINA — A 12-year-old student has been charged after authorities say they made a threat to carry out a school shooting at Rosemary Middle School.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, deputies launched an investigation after receiving reports that the student posted on social media about plans to “shoot up the school.”

During the investigation, officials said they discovered the juvenile had created a “kill list.”

The student was charged with making threats and later released to their parents. Investigators reported that no weapons were found in the child’s home.

Officials said the Georgetown County School District will handle disciplinary action. The student has been removed from school, and an increased law enforcement presence is expected as a precaution.

The investigation remains ongoing.
